The naming of our institution of higher learning
– “Heritage Polytechnic” was not haphazard rather it was a product of
deep-seated and all-embracing thought on what legacy or inheritance the
promoters of the institution intend to bequeath unto generations. In real life
situations, it is common that people often prepare what to provide for and / or
hand over to their descendants while alive or after death, through will. Some
of the assets are mostly shared in discriminatory manner in tandem with some of
the lopsided traditions of the affected people. These inheritances, which could
be in the form of cultural or religious beliefs, buildings, art, occupations,
ideas that are set aside by the society for imbibitions and preservations are
best described as “Heritage.”
Of all the inheritances, knowledge is the
greatest. It must therefore not just be ordinary knowledge, but demonstrably
qualitative, which is capable of sustaining the future economy of our nation.
And qualitativeA cursory assessment of the society today, one can rightly
observe that there is a sharp decay in our much revered morals; there is a
serious crack in family structures. Also, lawlessness has been
institutionalized —hired killings, bribery and corruption in higher places —
and the religious fibers of the society have been grossly torn apart.
The founders of the institution, in recognition
of these societal ills and in their quest to correct them and leave indelible
and non – discriminatory footprints on the sand of successful contributors to
the development of human assets, deemed it proper to institutionalize a citadel
for acquisition of qualitative knowledge and also create non discriminatory
multiplier effects on the economy through the establishment of Heritage “of
knowledge” , Heritage “of human capital development”, Heritage “of
socio-cultural rejuvenation, imbibitions and sustenance”, and Heritage “of
private sector / government partnering” Polytechnic.
Academic results which therefore culminated in
the public outcry against the crystal deplorable standard of education in the
country. Also, fees charged by the few privately established institutions of
higher learning that sustained the hope of the masses were too high beyond the
reach of the average parents. Informed by the need to, among other things,
address these weaknesses and contribute our quota to the National Development,
the idea of establishing the polytechnic was nurtured and fruitfully sustained.
The Polytechnic is sited in a serene environment of about fifty four (54)
hectres land mass. The institution, in its avowed determination to offer
qualitative education at all times, has employed the best hands, focused and
highly qualified; and is driven by modern technology with up-to-date and
state-of-the-art facilities to make learning more appealing to our students.
